Konan, Joseph, Agnihotri, Shikhar, Hsieh, Chia-Chun

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

This white paper introduces aoip.ai, a groundbreaking open-source SDK incorporating peer-to-peer technology and advanced AI integration to transform VoIP and IoT applications. It addresses key market challenges by enhancing data security, elevating communication quality, and providing greater flexibility for developers and users. Developed in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, aoip.ai sets a new standard for decentralized and democratized communication solutions.

NVIDIA Celebrates 1 Million Jetson Developers Worldwide at GTC

#artificialintelligence

A million developers across the globe are now using the NVIDIA Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics to build innovative technologies. Plus, more than 6,000 companies -- a third of which are startups -- have integrated the platform with their products. These milestones and more will be celebrated during the NVIDIA Jetson Edge AI Developer Days at GTC, a global conference for the era of AI and the metaverse, taking place online March 20-23. Register free to learn more about the Jetson platform and begin developing the next generation of edge AI and robotics. Atlanta-based Kris Kersey, the mind behind the popular YouTube channel Kersey Fabrications, is one developer using the NVIDIA Jetson platform for his one-in-a-million technological innovations.

Building the SHAKTI Microprocessor

Communications of the ACM

Microprocessors and microcontrollers form the core of electronic systems. Unfortunately, almost all the microprocessors and microcontrollers are imported, currently. IPs and patents with strict licensing terms protect their designs. Realizing the limitations of the processor industry, the SHAKTI Processor Program11 started as an academic initiative back in 2014. SHAKTI is an open source processor4 initiative by the Pratap Subramaniam–Center for Digital Intelligence and Secure Hardware Architecture (PC-CDISHA)–Reconfigurable Intelligent Systems Engineering (RISE) group, IIT-Madras.

Enabling Edge AI Through Future Ready Software Development Kit

#artificialintelligence

Edge AI is here to stay! Artificial intelligence (AI) is powering many real-world applications which we see in our daily lives. AI, once seen as an emerging technology, has now successfully penetrated into every industry (B2B & B2C) Banking, logistics, healthcare, defence, manufacturing, retail, automotive, consumer electronics. Smart Speaker like Echo, Google Nest, is one such example of Edge AI solutions in the consumer electronics sector. AI technology is powerful, and human-kind has set its eye on the path of harnessing its potential to the fullest. Intelligence brought to the device can be very useful and creative.

Nvidia developed a radically different way to compress video calls

#artificialintelligence

Last month, Nvidia announced a new platform called Maxine that uses AI to enhance the performance and functionality of video conferencing software. The software uses a neural network to create a compact representation of a person's face. This compact representation can then be sent across the network, where a second neural network reconstructs the original image--possibly with helpful modifications. Nvidia says that its technique can reduce the bandwidth needs of video conferencing software by a factor of 10 compared to conventional compression techniques. It can also change how a person's face is displayed.

Apple and Google's contact tracing finally released - Express Computer

#artificialintelligence

Apple Inc. and Google released the first versions of their Covid-19 contact-tracing tools to public health organizations on Wednesday so the agencies can start building applications ahead of the system's launch in mid-May. The toolset is a combination of software updates for iOS and Android, and software development kits to help developers build and test their apps. Apple released an early beta version of its software update that incorporates the technology, iOS 13.5, while Google is rolling out an update via its Google Play app store. The first phase of the system will let health agencies build apps that allow a person who tests positive for Covid-19 to input their diagnosis. The system will then use Bluetooth technology to learn who the person has come into contact with and then notify those people of possible exposure.

Intel RealSense 3D Camera for robotics & SLAM (with code)

Robohub

The Intel RealSense cameras have been gaining in popularity for the past few years for use as a 3D camera and for visual odometry. I had the chance to hear a presentation from Daniel Piro about using the Intel RealSense cameras generally and for SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). The following post is based on his talk. Depth information is important since that gives us the information needed to understand shapes, sizes, and distance. This lets us (or a robot) know how far it is from items to avoid running into things and to plan path around obstacles in the image field of view.
